The effect of Climate Change on our community and lives is highly relevant. Our Center is about more than education; it’s about equity, empowerment, and relevance. About ensuring that every student, regardless of their background, could become a scientist and make a meaningful contribution to addressing critical issues like climate change.
Our aim is to adapt the Chemistry courses, including General Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, and Instrumental Analysis, with a clear focus on integrating essential climate change concepts into the curriculum.

Our primary goals are twofold: first, to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively address the global challenge of climate change; and second, to utilize innovative teaching methods
Climate resilience in Puerto Rico starts with science, education and community. The UPR Center for Resilience to Climate Change (UPR-CRCC) is an academic and community-based center at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras, working to strengthen the island against hurricanes, flooding, heat and other climate impacts.
Climate Resilience Through Research, Education and Community
More than 40 researchers, educators and students work together at the UPR-CRCC. We combine chemistry, engineering, environmental science and education to create knowledge and opportunities that help Puerto Rico prepare for, respond to and recover from climate-related disruptions.
Climate Change Research
Our scientists investigate four areas: carbon capture and sensing, energy, environmental monitoring and green chemistry. Their discoveries appear in peer-reviewed journals and inform practical solutions for clean energy, cleaner air and water, and safer materials. Explore the research areas and read our publications.
Chemistry Education for Climate Resilience

Spaces of Resilience
We are developing spaces of resilience: protected, sustainable places where research, teaching and community services continue during and after extreme events.
